Course Content

This Advanced Cable Router Course follows the current Introduction to Cisco Cable Router ILT Course and addresses the needs of Cable Operator personnel with more than six months of on-the-job experience. The ACCR course will focus on understanding advanced design considerations, traffic flow characteristics, IOS-based security options and the effects of various tuning parameters available in the Cisco IOS software designed for Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) products.

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Describe the current DOCSIS implementation in detail and, at a conceptual level, describe how DOCSIS technology is adapting to meet Service Provider and customer needs.
  • Describe the benefits and limitations associated with the advanced PHY components of a DOCSIS 2.0 deployment.
  • Discuss the design considerations surrounding the deployment of a robust, resilient, highly available cable infrastructure in support of residential and commercial services.
  • Discuss the use of IOS tools to actively control traffic flows and to support traffic policies within the cable environment.
  • Describe the considerations for an effective security policy within a cable network environment.
  • Describe key, adjustable, parameters that can affect overall cable network functionality and performance.
  • Describe the considerations to weigh prior to deploying new technology options in a cable network environment.
