  • Search by Feature:Enter a full or partial Cisco IOS feature name or search Cisco IOS features by alpha character.
  • Search by Release:Select a Major Release, Maintenance Release, Platform and Feature Set and you will be presented with the features within that particular image.

  • Compare & Release Notes links:Once you have completed your selections of Major Release, Platform Family and Feature Set you can click on the “Compare” button to compare two releases side by side and the tool will list the features that are common to both at the top. Why don't I see all the possible features that are in a particular release?
Some features might technically be in an image, but for various business reasons like incomplete or unconfirmed testing they are not being publicly marketed in the release.

Do some software features require particular hardware?
Yes, some features require specific hardware (interface modules, Line Cards, Port Adapters) to be installed in the platform. For example, to support Voice features on the 1700 would require using the 1750 model with Voice Interface Card(s) installed. Please consult specific product information for further details.

When is a software feature license required?
In some cases, additional value-added functionality is provided in Cisco IOS software images but not covered by the "base" Cisco IOS Software License. The right to use these features is offered through a Feature License. For example, to use NetFlow Switching on a Cisco 7200 series platform, the WAN Packet Protocol/NetFlow Feature License, FR-WPP72, is required.
Note: A feature license conveys the right to use a feature, but it cannot add a feature to a software release that does not support it. For example, purchasing a WAN Packet Protocols/NetFlow license will not upgrade the software to support NetFlow.

Why are there other Cisco web applications that seem to give similar feature/release information?
Cisco IOS Software Selector, Feature Navigator and Software Advisor web applications all share the same database of feature/release data. Cisco IOS Software Selector is the public version of this data available to all Cisco visitors without a Cisco login.
