Executive Thought Leadership

Redefining Time and Space

Internet Protocol is not only a catalyst for technology innovation, but also a platform to develop unique business models and competitive strengths.

In today's Internet economy, services such as call waiting can be brought to market in weeks, not years; manufacturing companies can exist without owning a single manufacturing plant or piece of machinery; and you can get more done during your airport layover than you used to typically accomplish in an entire day at the office.

In short, the Internet is creating unprecedented opportunities for individuals, for companies, and for countries to explore new and innovative ways of improving productivity and of creating new forms of revenue. How well they exploit these intangibles will determine who wins and who loses during the coming years.

We are very fortunate to feature Mike Volpi, Cisco's Chief Strategy Officer, and Don Tapscott, Internet luminary and coauthor of Digital Capital: Harnessing the Power of Business Webs (Harvard Business School Press, 2000), in this month's issue of the Executive Thought Leadership Quarterly. Mike and Don are at the forefront of thought on how the Internet is transforming the way we work and the positive impact it is having. They offer invaluable insight into what we can do to harness the power of the Internet to build our business strategies and succeed in this new economy.

I hope you enjoy this issue of the Executive Thought Leadership Quarterly .

Sincerely,

John T. Chambers
