Introduction
|
Many Cisco products are subject to export restrictions under U.S. law because
they include encryption. A branch of the U.S. Department of Commerce
known as the Bureau of Industry and Security
regulates exports through the
Export Administration Regulations.
These regulations spell out the export restrictions on a wide variety of goods,
software, and technologies.
In the case of Cisco products containing encryption, a one-time government
technical review is usually required prior to export. Cisco ensures that reviews
are completed well in advance of a product's release date. Once a review has
been completed, products may become eligible for a particular license exception,
such as ENC. This exception may then be used by other exporters, as provided by
the U.S. EAR.
Cisco uses this portion of its web site to communicate export control information
specific to its products to our customers and partners. This information may be
required for shipping documentation, record keeping, or post-shipment reporting.

Description of Search Fields, Definitions, Search Tips
Product Family
The Product Family field indicates a related set of Cisco products.
Product ID
An alpha-numeric product identifier (also known as SKU) that is generally found
on your shipping documentation, or sales order. A search using this field should
consist of partial or whole product ID(s). Product IDs can also be cut and pasted
into the search field, from an excel spreadsheet or other product list.
Product Description
The Product Description is a marketing description of the product generally located
on the shipping documentation next to the Product ID, for example "1- port Gigabit Ethernet."
A search using this field should consist of a partial or whole description.
ECCN - Export Control Classification Number
The Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) categorizes items based on the type of
commodity, technology or software and their technical parameters. It is an alphanumeric
designation (i.e., 5A992 or 5A002) used in the Commerce Control List (CCL) to identify
items for export control purposes. The first number of the ECCN indicates what the category
is (i.e. 5 =Telecommunications and "Information Security", Each of the 10 categories
is divided into five groups. The product groups are
A: Systems, Equipment and Components;
B: Test, Inspection and Production Equipment;
C: Materials;
D: Software and
E: Technology.
This is the second digit of the ECCN. A search can be perfomed on a whole or partial ECCN
number. A search using 5A will result in all ECCN and product beginning with this
alphanumeric sequence.
Encryption Status
Cisco's products containing encryption greater than 64 bits have undergone a one-time review
by the United States Government and have been classified by the BIS with an Encryption Status
of either Restricted, Unrestricted or Mass-Market (15 CFR Part 740.17). To perform a search on
a single status, select the status from the associated drop down box.
Mass Market:
Mass Market products are eligible for export with NLR (No License Required) to most
end users (including government end users) in all countries except the embargoed countries that
are designated by the U.S. as supporters of international terrorism: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan,
and Syria. Mass Market products are eligible for de minimus treatment . (ECCNs: 5A992, 5D992 with
encryption note Mass Market) Commodities, Software, or Components (chips, ICs, some toolkits, some SDKs,
some software modules).
Unrestricted:
Unrestricted products are eligible for export to most end users (including government end users) in all
countries except the five (5) embargoed countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria, as they are
eligible for export under license exception ENC (15 CFR Part 740.17(b)(3)). Unrestricted (ECCNs: 5A002, 5D002,
with encryption note Unrestricted) Commodities, Software, or Components (chips, ICs, some toolkits, some SDKs,
some software modules).

without having to apply for an individual export license as they are eligible for export under license exception
ENC. (15 CFR Part 740.17(b)(2)). Restricted (ECCN: 5A002, 5D002, with Encryption Note: Restricted).
Encryption Strength
The encryption strength indicates the bit strength of the symmetric encryption algorithms contained in the product.
CCATS
Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System. This is the number assigned by the BIS to the documentation of
a products' formal review and classification against the CCL (Commerce Control List). A search can be performed on
a whole or partial CCATS number. A search using G0 will result in all CCATS and product beginning with the entered sequence.

Division in France and have been assigned a File Number. A search can be performed on a whole or partial DCSSI File number.
Click on the DCSSI File Number to reference the DCSSI Matrix, and determine the applicable Declaration or Authorization
Number for Import, Supply and Use or Export. More information on the DCSSI can be located here:
http://www.ssi.gouv.fr/en/dcssi/index.html
HS Number
The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System Number (HS Number) is an internationally standardized system of numbers
used to classify products for tariff determination. To search using HS number, enter either the whole or partial number.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why did my search not find any products?
At least one field of search criteria is required in order to perform a search. The number of records
that would result without a populated field would reduce the performance and Also, only products found
will return a result. For reporting purposes be sure to check which items in your search may not have
returned a result.
2. Can I type in a partial ProductID when using the search function?
You have the option of using the complete description as well as a word or phrase, and complete or partial
ProductIDs to search (for example, "cab"). The system searches for products containing your criteria.
Please note that using this option will produce all records that match your search (such as all "cab" products).
Precise search criteria will produce precise results, and your search will also run faster. Please check
your search criteria for possible spacing or spelling errors and reenter the information. If the search still
produces no results it is possible that the product is no longer listed. If you receive this message, please
contact your Cisco Account Manager or distributor for more information.
3. What is the Product Family search feature and how do I use it?
If you know the name of the Product Family your item belongs to, (for instance "Catalyst 2960 Series") but you do not know
the Product ID, you can select the Product Family to see a list of Product IDs that could apply to your item.
This can help narrow your search.

4. What is the "Search by Product Description or ProductID" feature and how do I use it?
The "Search by Product Description or ProductID" function allows you to search for specific products by
description or by ProductID, and view the results on your screen. Searches are not case-sensitive, and
only one product description and/or number can be entered per field. Correct spelling and spacing are required.
To search by product description and/or ProductID:
1. Scroll to either the Product Description and/or ProductID field.
3. You can enter both a product description and a ProductID to narrow your search.
4. Once you have completed entering your data, click the Submit button. The results of your search will appear on your screen.
If your search produces no data, you will see the message, "Your query returned no data." Please check your search
criteria for possible spacing or spelling errors and re-enter the information. If the search still produces no
results it is possible that the product is no longer listed. If you receive this message, please contact your Cisco
Global Export Trade representative for more information. (insert contact method)
5. How many Product Family names can I enter during a single search?
There is no limit on the number of product families that can be entered during the search. But if the total number of products associated with product families entered returns more than 65000 records, system will prompt you to refine the search criteria.
6. How many Product IDs can I enter during a single search?
System will allow only 500 product IDs during a single search. The number of product Ids entered can be visible as a count below the Product Id field.
7. How do I search for all of Cisco RESTRICTED product?
Choose "Restricted" from the drop down menu of Encryption Status and hit Search.
