Cisco Security Intelligence Operations has detected significant activity related to Spanish-language spam e-mail messages that claim to contain a notification from the Colombian government about increasing malware threats. The text in the e-mail message instructs the recipient to follow a supplied link for further details. However, the link redirects to a malicious .exe file that, when executed, attempts to infect the system with malicious code.

The www.policia.gov.co.operatividad.listado.paginas.webs.reportadas.list-excel.exe file has a file size of 49,152 bytes. The MD5 checksum, which is a unique identifier of the executable, is the following string: 0xDBFA4D9DF61C61E13B8BCA10CC8CB093
