Apple has released a security advisory and updated software to address the OpenSSL DTLS implementation regression error remote denial of service vulnerability.
Description
OpenSSL contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on the targeted system.
The vulnerability is due to a regression error that was introduced through an update for a vulnerability in the Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) protocol implementation of the affected software. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability through an unspecified vector. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to cause an unexpected termination of the application that uses the affected OpenSSL versions.
OpenSSL has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
Warning Indicators
OpenSSL versions 1.0.0f and 0.9.8s are affected.
IntelliShield Analysis
The vulnerability is due to a regression error that was introduced through a fix for the vulnerability CVE-2011-4108.
The vulnerability is documented in IntelliShield Alert 24893.
