Red Hat has released a security advisory and updated packages to address the Adobe Flash Player object confusion arbitrary code execution vulnerability.

 
 
Description

Adobe Flash Player contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on a targeted system.

The vulnerability is due to unspecified errors in handling objects in the Adobe Flash Player. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to view a malicious website. If successful, the attacker could execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the user.

Adobe confirmed the vulnerability in a security bulletin and released software updates.

 
Warning Indicators

The following Adobe products are affected:

  • Flash Player prior to 11.2.202.235
  • Flash Player for Android 4 prior to 11.1.115.8
  • Flash Player for Android 2 and 3 prior to 11.1.111.9

Impact

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on a targeted system with the privileges of the user. If the user holds elevated privileges, the attacker could execute code that results in a complete system compromise.

 
Technical Information

The vulnerability is due to unspecified errors in handling objects in the Adobe Flash Player.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to view a web page that contains malicious Flash content. When processed, the content could cause the application to improperly handle unspecified objects. The attacker could handle a resulting error condition to execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the user.

 
Safeguards

Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.

Users are advised not to open e-mail messages from suspicious or unrecognized sources. If users cannot verify that links or attachments included in e-mail messages are safe, they are advised not to open them.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
 
Patches/Software

Adobe has released software updates via software automatic update features as well as at the following link: Flash Player 11.2.202.235

Red Hat packages can be updated using the up2date or yum command.
