Cisco Unified Communications Manager contains a vulnerability which could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service condition on a targeted device.
Description
Cisco Unified Communications Manager contains a vulnerability which could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on a targeted device.
The vulnerability is due to improper handling of crafted UDP packets addressed to closed ports on a targeted device. An attacker could exploit vulnerability by sending multiple, crafted UDP packets to closed ports on a targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the graphical user interface (GUI) to become unresponsive to legitimate users, while also causing an interruption of voice services.
Warning Indicators
Cisco Unified Communications Manager versions prior to 9.0(1), 8.6(4) BE3k and 8.6(2a)su2 are vulnerable.
IntelliShield Analysis
To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would need access to trusted, internal networks to submit malicious requests to the targeted system. This access requirement decreases the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.
Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.1(x) and 8.5(x) versions are not affected.
An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending multiple, crafted UDP packets to closed ports on a targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the GUI to become unresponsive to legitimate users and cause an interruption of voice services.
Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to improper handling of crafted UDP packets addressed to closed ports on a targeted device.
An attacker could exploit vulnerability by sending multiple, crafted UDP packets to closed ports on a targeted device. When the malicious packets are processed by the device, CPU resources may be exhausted. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the GUI to become unresponsive to legitimate users and an interruption of voice services.
Safeguards
