Cisco Unified Communications Manager Location Bandwidth Manager contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service condition on a targeted system. Updates are available.
Description
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Location Bandwidth Manager (LBM) contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition.
The vulnerability is due to insufficient access controls implemented in the affected software for intracluster communication. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability by poisoning the LBM transaction records to consume all available bandwidth pools. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the targeted device to deny call transmissions, resulting in a DoS condition for legitimate users.
Warning Indicators
Cisco Unified Communications Manager version 9.0(x) is vulnerable.
IntelliShield Analysis
To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would need access to trusted, internal networks to submit malicious requests to the targeted system. This access requirement decreases the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability to cause a targeted device to deny call transmissions, resulting in a DoS condition for legitimate users.
Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to insufficient authentication of the LBM hub node when handling intracluster communication between LBMs.
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability by poisoning the LBM transaction records to consume all available bandwidth pools. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the targeted device to deny call transmissions, resulting in a DoS condition for legitimate users.
Safeguards
Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.
Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.
Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
