Version Summary:Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to hijack a user session on a targeted device. Updates are available.

Description
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to hijack a user session.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient access controls implemented in the web server component of the affected software. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability by submitting crafted HTTP GET or POST requests to a targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to impersonate a legitimate user and perform any action permitted to the user. If the user holds elevated privileges, the attacker could achieve a complete compromise of the targeted device.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security advisory and has released software updates.

Warning Indicators
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server versions 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, and 8.5 are affected.

IntelliShield Analysis
To exploit the vulnerability the attacker must have knowledge of the session cookie value for a user that has previously logged out. The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server will automatically invalidate the session cookie after 30 minutes; therefore, the attacker has a 30-minute window of opportunity to perform the attack. These information and time frame requirements could reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.

Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Vendor Announcements
Cisco has released a security advisory for bug ID CSCuc64885 at the following link: cisco-sa-20130410-mp

Impact
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit the vulnerability to impersonate a legitimate user and perform any action on the device permitted to the user. If the user holds elevated privileges, the attacker could achieve a complete compromise of the targeted device.

Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to improper handling of the user session termination by the web server component of the affected software.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker with knowledge of a targeted user session cookie value after the user has logged off of the device could exploit the vulnerability by submitting crafted HTTP GET or POST requests to a targeted device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to impersonate a legitimate user and perform any action permitted to the user. If the user holds elevated privileges, the attacker could achieve a complete compromise of the targeted device.
