Cisco Prime Network Control System contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information on a vulnerable device. Updates are available.
Cisco Prime Network Control System NCS appliances that are running software versions prior to 18.104.22.168 contain a database user account that is created with default credentials. An attacker could use this account to modify the configuration of the application or disrupt services.
A software upgrade is required to resolve this vulnerability.
Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security advisory and released software updates.
Cisco Prime Network Control System appliances running software versions prior to 22.214.171.124 are vulnerable.
An attacker would need access to a vulnerable device, which likely would require access to an internal, private network. The access requirement could limit the possibility of an exploit attempt.
Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information, such as the default credentials on a vulnerable device. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to modify the device configuration settings or disrupt services, which could be leveraged to conduct further attacks.
