Oracle Java Runtime Environment contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on a targeted system. Updates are not available.
A vulnerability in Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system.
The vulnerability is due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied input by the JRE while invoking the reflection application programming interface (API). An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to visit a crafted website that contains a malicious Java applet. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to bypass sandbox protection and execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user.
Oracle has not confirmed the vulnerability and updates are not available.
Oracle Java Runtime Environment 7 Update 21 and prior are vulnerable.
To exploit the vulnerability, the attacker may provide a link that directs a user to a malicious site. If the user holds elevated privileges, exploitation could result in complete compromise of the system.
