Version Summary:Multiple Cisco WebEx products contain a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to view sensitive information. Updates are available.
 
 
Description
A vulnerability in HTTP processing in multiple Cisco WebEx products could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to read uninitialized memory.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by passing a crafted request to a WebEx node. An exploit could allow the attacker to read uninitialized memory.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security notice and software updates are available.
 
Warning Indicators
At the time this alert was first published, the following Cisco WebEx products were vulnerable:
  • Cisco WebEx Meetings Server 1.1 and prior
  • Cisco WebEx Node for MCS 8.5(5)
  • Cisco WebEx Node for ASR 1000 Series 15.3(01)S
Later versions of Cisco WebEx products may also be affected.
 
IntelliShield Analysis
To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker would likely need access to a trusted, internal network to send crafted HTTP requests to the targeted system. This access requirement may reduce the likelihood of a successful attack.

Customers are advised to review the bug reports in the "Vendor Announcements" section for a current list of affected versions.

Software updates are available for Cisco WebEx Meetings Server; however, at the time this alert was first published, software updates for Cisco WebEx Node for MCS and Cisco WebEx Node for ASR 1000 Series were not available.

Administrators are advised to contact the vendor regarding future updates and releases.

Impact
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to read uninitialized memory on an affected device. Successful exploitation could be used to conduct further attacks.
 
Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of crafted HTTP requests by the affected software.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to a targeted WebEx node. If successful, the attacker could read uninitialized memory on the targeted device, which could be used to conduct further attacks.
 
Safeguards
Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.

Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.

Administrators may consider using IP-based access control lists (ACLs) to allow only trusted systems to access the affected systems.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.

Cisco customers with active contracts should contact their Cisco support team for assistance in upgrading to a software version that includes fixes for this vulnerability.
