Description
Cisco Unified Communications Manager contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an targeted device.

The vulnerability is due to improper error handling by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending malformed registration messages to a device running the affected software. An exploit could allow the attacker to cause a DoS condition on an affected device.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security advisory and has released software updates.

Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to improper error handling by the affected software when handling registration messages.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted registration messages to a device running the affected software. When the malicious registration messages are processed, the affected service could terminate abnormally. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause a DoS condition on an affected device.
 
Safeguards
Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.

Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.

Administrators may consider using IP-based access control lists (ACLs) to allow only trusted systems to access the affected systems.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
