Version Summary:Cisco 9900 Series IP phones contain a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service condition. Updates are available.
 
 
Description
A vulnerability in the web application interface of Cisco 9900 series IP phones could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the webapp interface to become unavailable.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation of certain fields. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by overflowing certain input fields. This could allow the attacker to render the webapp interface of the Cisco 9900 series IP phone unavailable.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security notice and released software updates.
 
Warning Indicators
At the time this alert was first published, Cisco Unified IP Phones 9900 Series Firmware versions 9.3.2 SR1 and prior were vulnerable. Later releases of Cisco Unified IP Phones 9900 Series Firmware may also be vulnerable.

To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker may need access to trusted, internal networks to submit crafted input to a targeted device. This access requirement limits the likelihood of a successful attack.

Impact
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the webapp interface on an affected device to become unavailable, resulting in a DoS condition.
 
Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation of certain fields by the webapp interface used by an affected device.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting crafted input designed to overflow certain input fields. If successful, the attacker could cause the webapp interface on the targeted device to become unavailable, resulting in a DoS condition.

Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.

Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
