Version Summary:Cisco Unified Communications Manager contains a vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct cross-site scripting attacks. Updates are not available.
 
 
Description
A vulnerability in the Cisco IP Manager Assistant (IPMA) interface of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Cisco Unified CM) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the web interface on the affected system.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to access a malicious link.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability in a security notice; however, software updates are not available.
 
Warning Indicators
At the time this alert was first published, Cisco Unified CM versions 10.0(1) and prior were vulnerable. Later releases of Cisco Unified CM may also be vulnerable.
 
IntelliShield Analysis
To exploit the vulnerability, the attacker may provide a link that directs a user to a malicious site and use misleading language or instructions to persuade the user to follow the provided link.

Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Impact
An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary script or HTML code in the user's browser session in the security context of the affected site. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to obtain sensitive browser-based information such as authentication cookies and recently submitted data.
 
Technical Information
The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied by the IPMA interface of Cisco Unified CM.

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to access a malicious link. An exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected site and access sensitive browser-based information.
 
Safeguards
Administrators are advised to contact the vendor regarding future updates and releases.

Users are advised not to visit websites or follow links that have suspicious characteristics or cannot be verified as safe.
