This signature detects an attempt to read the contents of the RAM of a system running a vulnerable version of OpenSSL, aka the Heartbleed attack. This signature detects a server response to a heartbeat request where the response contains more than 200 bytes of data. This vulnerability is further documented as CVE-2014-0160.This signature is a meta component of signature 4187-2 and has no event actions of its own defined.
Use of this signature may cause a negative performance impact on the sensor. Event action filters should be used to exclude IP addresses the signature alerts on that are not running vulnerable versions of OpenSSL.
This signature may false positive on normal SSL traffic. It should only be implemented when using vulnerable versions of OpenSSL.
