Description
 
Cisco Security Intelligence Operations has detected significant activity related to spam e-mail messages that claim to contain a digital certificate expiration notification for the recipient. The text in the e-mail message attempts to persuade the recipient to open the attachment to renew the digital certificate. However, the .zip attachment contains a malicious .exe file that, when executed, attempts to infect the system with malicious code.

E-mail messages that are related to this threat (RuleID4844KVR) may contain the following files:

The ADP_dig_cert.exe file in the ADP_dig_cert.zip attachment has a file size of 147,472 bytes. The MD5 checksum, which is a unique identifier of the executable, is the following string: 0x6B306C12FF6F2DFD3455DAAF8284CC67

A variant of the ADP_dig_cert.exe file in the ADP_dig_cert.zip attachment has a file size of 110,592 bytes. The MD5 checksum, is the following string: 0x7F19BE45EFB38E5FD8087F071D73EA26

A second variant of the ADP_dig_cert.exe file in the ADP_dig_cert.zip attachment has a file size of 94,208 bytes. The MD5 checksum, is the following string: 0x00BD02BAB05776EE7FFB548BEF6B922E

A third variant of the ADP_dig_cert.exe file in the ADP_dig_cert.zip attachment has a file size of 94,208 bytes. The MD5 checksum is the following string: 0xADA5696A3B20ECD1862AC346B82D0DD6

The ADP_dig_cert_upd.exe file in the ADP_dig_cert.zip archive has a file size of 114,688 bytes. The MD5 checksum, is the following string: 0x826AF2CF5718DFC681B087DF18656FD3
