A vulnerability in hawtio could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to access sensitive information on a targeted system.
The vulnerability is due to an unspecified condition that exists within the affected software that could lead to a NullPointerException with a full stacktrace. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to perform a path traversal attack and access sensitive information from within the root directory of the affected software. A successful exploit could be used to conduct further attacks.
hawtio has not publicly confirmed the vulnerability; however, third-party software updates are available.
To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have user-level access to the targeted system. This access requirement could reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Reports indicate that this vulnerability has been addressed in hawtio versions 2.0-beta-1, 2.0-beta-2 2.0-m1, 2.0-m2, 2.0-m3, and 1.5; however, public confirmation from hawtio is unavailable.
Administrators are advised to contact the vendor regarding future updates and releases, or apply the appropriate third-party software update.

Administrators may consider using IP-based access control lists (ACLs) to allow only trusted systems to access the affected systems.
Administrators can help protect affected systems from external attacks by using a solid firewall strategy.
Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.
